Measuring Plant Nutrition with Metiris
Metiris is a pre-incorporation spin-off from Ghent University, developing sensor technology that enables direct measurement of nutrient concentrations in plant leaves. Instead of relying solely on soil samples, leaf samples, or visual assessments, this sensor provides real-time, field-level insights into nutrient status.
How it works:
The sensor scans the leaves and uses spectral data to estimate concentrations of nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese zinc, boron... This allows for precise agronomic decisions, tailored fertilization and early stress detection.
Why it matters:
No more sample handling, shipping delays, and waiting for lab results. We are building a handheld device with smart software, to get accurate, actionable data in seconds right in the field. We’re redefining plant analysis with a fast, sustainable alternative to chemical testing.
Our goal is to provide farmers and agronomists with the information they need to improve decision making on fertilization. We strongly believe that more universal access to reliable nutrient measurements can revolutionize fertilizer decisions.
